By tradition, a sword, once drawn, must taste blood before being returned to its scabbard. To Dare to wield such power is to calls upon oneself the severest tests. And naught but the gift of the Goddess can sheath the sword. Without this gift the blade will only bring destruction.

In our rituals, the southern weapon of Fire is the Sword, symbol of the living flame, and the magician’s Courage. It is the blade of St. Michael, swift in defense of the innocent. This blade, the legacy of Waylan the Smith, must be tempered, undergoing the trials of fire and water, until hardened, yet malleable, and able to hold an edge. Only the successful experience of the Wheel of Life will forge the Sword of the Spirit.
