The pentacle is said to strike terror into the heart of disobedient spirits, and it can only do this when it depicts the understanding of one who is truly the Neb Tua or Lord of the Earth.

The Paten

In our rituals, the northern weapon of Earth is the Paten, symbol of service and experience. This is the dish which held the head of St. John the Baptist and which holds the Bread of Life.

Its polished surface is the mirror of Uriel, in whose depths the shadow self can be plainly seen. Its reverse side is the pentacle, the symbolic representation of the magician’s mastery of the plane of dense matter.

This magical symbol is linked to Path 20 because of its association with Virgo and the House of Bread.
